How Are Bamboo Straws Made ?

Plastic straws are used for an average of 20 minutes, but they stick around for approximately 600 years.
So when it comes to plastic straws, simply say no.
There are plenty of alternatives to using a plastic straw. More and more people choose to refuse plastic straws and keep a reusable straw in their bag so they never get caught out at a café when wanting to enjoy a freshy squeezed juice.
Bamboo straws are a smart, green alternative to keep in your home and your bag. Bamboo is a safe, natural alternative that doesn't endanger marine life or pollute the environment. Bamboo straws are the ONLY compostable reusable straw on the market. In fact, bamboo produces 35% more oxygen than trees and actually helps to repair the environment.
Bamboo straws don't change temperature or the taste of anything, so they're ideal for both hot and cold drinks. They can be reused many times but once they've seen better days bamboo straws can simply be placed in your composter or returned to the earth to break down naturally.
PROCESS OF MAKING BAMBOO STRAW
We work with local farmers that harvest the bamboo in the most sustainable and organic way in northern Vietnam. We make sure that there are no any harmful chemicals and have not contributed to any deforestation throughout the production process.
Vietnamese farmers will first travel into the bamboo plantations and forests to seek out the bamboo trees which are at full maturity. It is important that the trees picked are of good quality. Once identified and discovered, the stalks are then chopped off and transported back to the farm where they will be allowed to dry naturally and properly under the sunlight. This makes the bamboo get that beautiful brownish glow and hardens them enough to be able to work with.
Then, the bamboo is cultivated by hand, and then it is chopped and filed into the shape of a straw. Once they have been cut to the perfect size, they then gets sanded, filed and etched to give them a smooth and natural finish.
The last step is a natural cleaning process. The bamboo straws are taken away and cleaned vigorously and treated to a high power pressurized wash, again using no chemicals or pesticides whatsoever. The straws are then left to dry on large hessian rugs in the sunshine for up to one week after being crafted. This ensures that they turn a beautiful golden yellow and acquire that sun-kissed natural look.
Then they are engraved with the Cosset Space brand name or customer's personalised business logo for wholesale using a fine laser engraver.
